Average!

On Monday Elizabeth had her 12 month (adjusted) evaluation at the NICU's development clinic. Elizabeth had to take a "test" to check her development in cognitive, motor, and verbal. Elizabeth did pretty well although there was a major breakdown about not being able to get a rubber ducky out of a clear box. The results-Elizabeth is average! She scored smack-dab in the middle of average in cognitive and on the low side of average in the other two areas. The test is not a predictor of the future and any learning problems she may have (as a 23 weeker she is at a huge risk, but when your are born that early about the only thing you aren't at risk for is childhood obesity!) but only how she is doing right now. The doctors were very impressed by her scores and told me that many babies don't do as well as she did (and she had a bad day too, that darn duck!). We are very proud of her and happy to have a happy little girl who is "average"!
Just an average kind of girl!

I found your blog today and really enjoyed reading about Elizabeth. It's great to hear that she is doing so well. My daughter was born the day before yours and she was also a preemie (1 lb. 1/4 oz.)And it's interesting to hear another persons story that is so similar. I can't wait to hear more about Elizabeth!
